Poetry Critical 2.0

Hey guys, Donald here.

In a few weeks, this site will be 9 years old. 9 years! And I still know some of the earliest submissions by heart.

But, boy. That’s like 102 in web-years. So it’s time for something new. I’m building that something now with my nights-and-weekend minutes (and plenty of coffee). Buy me a cup?

The hour of the Gods
davidm

At night when the temple is empty,
 1
when only the memory of incense lingers,
 2
dying candle flames sputter
 3
in the Lady chapels
 4
shadows soften and dim.
 5

Our temple welcomes such gothic silence
 6
for now, is the hour of the gods,
 7
the moments when our prayers
 8
and our piety finally make sense.
 9

How paltry our precious offerings seem
 10
lying on your great altar,
 11
we mouth our psalms and click on rosaries
 12
seeking judgement and redemption.
 13

It has always been thus;
 14
tucked away in our little lives
 15
shrinking back in awe at the cosmic majesty
 16
that unfolds before us.
 17

Forgive us our trespasses.
