lyle has three semesters
 1
of an entomology degree
 2
and half a right arm
 3
still missing somewhere
 4
in vietnam.
 5

the first afternoon
 6
i walked into southport
 7
he slid me a bottle
 8
of wild turkey.
 9

take a tug chief,
 10
helps keep the balls
 11
above water level.
 12

after i told him
 13
i was a parole officer
 14
he told me about his son
 15
doing a boxcared fifty up in animosa
 16
for cooking meth
 17
and slinging it
 18
to an undercover.
 19

he said
 20
the kid took after his mom
 21
who went infinity
 22
on crack cocaine
 23
a long time back.
 24

then lyle took a long bolt
 25
and told me how
 26
that kind of stuff
 27
is all duck spit
 28
and general dry tears
 29
of the cicada,
 30

how the machine hums,
 31
constantly scheming for us
 32

and it takes its share,
 33

but he's got his arm
 34
and it still flips women like pancakes
 35
what for he can
 36
mount them from behind.
 37

i'm not
 38
cut out
 39
for friends,
 40

but he's one of the few
 41
that's kept his magic
 42
during this general deterioration
 43

and knowing
 44
he's out there
 45
helps.

Good poem. I would like to be sitting at Lyle's bar right now.

Justin you certainly know how to grab the reader's attention, some great work in here
Not all that keen on L31 to L37
The last 3 stanzas can just about stand up by themselves, if you ever decide you don't want them anymore, i will give em a good home.
Congrats on getting some of  your poems published.
F***ing smartass. ;)

41 to 43 and 44 to 46 are simple perfection.
