Ash Visitation

Feet caressed the prairie,
slowly unearthing the mud.
Going towards a throng,
of black suits and umbrellas.
Red eyes and cautious lashes,
partly concealed by the bark.
Not to impede truth,
but to prolong the silence...
Agonizing faces,
familiar faces.
"to scream is futile
for death has no sound."
