a wan, reluctant star.
spaces

even now
 1
your body is the source
 2
of my rivered heart,
 3
strange tall clime cut
 4
from dank stone, though
 5
etched with waters deep.
 6
it's comical, this deniers' dance
 7
-- you twisting in the tugging of
 8
our thistled tandem,
 9
your live wire eyes bouncing
 10
but refusing to leave my face.
 11

we draw closer in argument,
 12
frames yearning toward
 13
one another even as hot air
 14
and cracked tree hypocrisy
 15
divide by virtue of all
 16
oracular pronouncements.
 17
our words are of a violence
 18
our bodies demand to echo,
 19
and I take a fickle pleasure
 20
in your sisyphus' struggle,
 21
in fists clenching
 22
and eyes flashing.
 23

our estrangement
 24
is a folk tale our
 25
descendants can sing
 26
lustily:
 27

two heavenly bodies,
 28
twinned in starry arrogant
 29
youth and unmitigated
 30
intent,
 31
torn asunder by madness
 32
and self-piety!
 33
our second chance a future
 34
festival of lovers' furies,
 35
with all the divinity of
 36
two constellations'
 37
inescapable collision.
