On Rice Soup
Salamander

The spoon, depressed in a mix of white and wild rice, with the black husks

of the wild strewn throughout the white like moments of epiphany in an
 2
Ashbery poem. Specks of basil, parsley and thyme stand in an amoeba of
 3
oil, circling the spoon.
 4
 
 
I have undertaken the decoration of the empty space on my wall
 5
but as nothing is mine I will refuse
 6
Instead resolving to drop back into
 7
keeping it real
