you always spoke

without fear. and we

would flock around

you half curious

half afraid as you

publicized sermons

that were more like

confessions to us.

we grew up. at least

we thought we did.

and whenever your

words reappeared
 12
we would seek comfort

in the familiar, beg the

world to interfere.

i see you more these

days. some still say
 17
you were selfish and
 18
arrogant. i want to

tell them when i told
 20
you i loved you
 21
you had something
 22
to say.
