Standing Still

I feel like I’m stuck
In between chairs
There is no space
To move them
Layers of upholstery
Spiraling away
Yet pushing back
My strength
Seats settling in
A Jagged manner
Fitted together like
Abiding puzzle pieces
Civilizing a path by
Imposing highfalutin
Table manners
Who made these chairs
Legs sturdy and stubborn
Seats relentlessly dismay
With back support
These chairs where here before me
And they will be here after me
My feet remembers
Taking steps is easy
Standing still is hard
