The Shrinking Sky
Mattmckeown

Visiting the home of my childhood,
 1
I stood in the middle of a tiny patch
 2
of grass I used to call my back yard.
 3

I looked up into a small sky
 4
with an even smaller moon and
 5
tiny stars.
 6

There was a time that sky appeared
 7
to me  as the vast never ending universe,
 8
it was the great proliferator of a boy's
 9
imagination.
 10

Yes the perception of the moon and stars
 11
in the dark night sky all thiose years ago
 12
seemed  so much bigger to me.
 13

Older now and devoid of adolescent
 14
innocence and the belief that somehow
 15
all my hopes and dreams could magically
 16
come true,
 17

I realize like the tiny sky
 18
I now gaze upon,
 19
that my life too-
 20
has become small
