Woman in track pants drinking wine

Hello you sad lady girl-thing
Paunched and face-pinched
Used to be so pretty and fresh
Now they’ve marked you down discount on the supermarket shelf
What do you do with yourself
Your vintage Kmart garments from years washed without colour separation
Your hair swept inelegantly into an unattractive knot at the back
Of your head where your mind is free only dreaming in bed
What do you want with your middle-time life, a mother a friend a career or a wife
And if no one asks you will you ask yourself what gives you joy and what will you do but keep on moving through
Does it matter, do you?
